💡 ABOUT THE ROLE:
As VP of Engineering, you’ll take ownership of key backend systems that enable cloud infrastructure management directly from code. You’ll collaborate with the founding team, coordinate closely with product, and set long-term technical direction. This role blends leadership, architecture, and hands-on development, with significant contributions to the open-source Rust ecosystem.
💼 WHAT YOU’LL DO AS VP OF ENGINEERING:
- Lead design and implementation of virtualization and orchestration backends for scalability
- Collaborate with founders on technical strategy and long-term platform direction
- Coordinate with product teams to set realistic goals and timelines
- Write architecture documents, RFCs, and proof-of-concepts to guide engineering
- Contribute Rust code across the platform, shaping structure and best practices
- Maintain and contribute to open-source Rust projects, engaging with the community
💻 TECH STACK:
- Rust (tokio, actix, async-std, futures, async/await)
- AWS (ELB, EC2, ECS, API Gateway, Lambda @edge)
- WebAssembly (desirable)
- Other backend languages (Go, Python, JavaScript, Ruby)
🔎 WHO YOU ARE:
- 5+ years of experience building backend services for web apps or IaaS/BaaS products
- Proven leadership of engineering teams (5+ engineers) with design and delivery ownership
- Experienced in writing production Rust code and familiar with Rust async/web ecosystem
- Comfortable balancing hands-on coding with leadership and unblocker responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of AWS products and distributed systems
- Past experience as a technical founder is a plus
- Able to commute occasionally to London office preferred
- Bonus: Experience with WebAssembly or additional backend languages
